Project Brief
Following a major re-brand for Burnetts, we were delighted to be asked to design and build their new website.
The existing site was dated and suffered from an older, awkward to use content management system (CMS). Given that Burnett's are very pro-active in keeping their site up to date with news, factsheets and events, an efficient CMS was essential to the site's future success. It was also felt that the old site was very static, with few calls to action, so improvements were needed here too.
From a creative perspective, the site was going to benefit from a brand new logo and colour scheme (designed by Liquid in Carlisle) so this was much more than a site upgrade.
Our Reponse
Following an afternoon spent asking some awkward questions about how the site could/would be used, who would be using it and what they should be doing when they got there, we set out a plan to ensure the site would be equally attractive to both business and private clients.
We focused on the key messages the site needed to portray and how these could be aimed ay specific segments of the audience. We also added in some bold calls to action, starting on the home page with a flexible 'slider' to highlight different areas of legal practice. The home page tabs would also allow rich content for visitors (including search engines) providing a clear 'signpost' , leading visitors to find the content most relevant to their needs.
Our choice of content management platform for the site was simple: Expression Engine. Having worked extensively with Expression Engine, we knew how well it would lend itself to general content management, management of news items and built in calendaring features for Burnetts' legal seminars and events.
